Construction activity in Greece sees significant upward trend

The Total Building Activity (private-public) in Greece, in April 2024 which is calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits, amounted to 2,823, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said. This figure corresponds to 621,905 m2 of surface and 2,700,893 m3 of volume, reflecting, respectively, a 40.1% increase in the number of building permits, a 38.6% increase in surface and a 29.9% increase in volume, on an annual basis.

In the last twelve months, from May 2023 until April 2024, Total Building Activity (private-public) in Greece, calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits, amounted to 30,320. This figure corresponds to 6,953,774 m2ofsurface and 31,375,645 m3 of volume. In comparison with the corresponding period from May 2022 until April 2023, there is a 17.0% increase in the number of building permits, an 18.8% increase in surface and an 18.8% increase in volume.

In the same period, from May 2023 until April 2024, Private Building Activity in Greece recorded a 17.1% increase in the number of issued building permits, a 19.6% increase in surface and a 19.4% increase in volume, compared with the corresponding period from May 2022 to April 2023. During the same period, Public Building Activity accounted for a 2.3% of the total building volume.

During the period January – April 2024, Total Building Activity (private-public) in Greece recorded a 41.5% increase in the number of issued building permits, a 38.4% increase in surface and a 26.2% increase in volume, compared with the corresponding period of 2023. During the same period, January – April 2024, Private Building Activity in Greece recorded a 41.8% increase in the number of issued building permits, a 40.2% increase in surface and a 26.8% increase in volume, in comparison with the period January – April 2023, ELSTAT data showed.

Building Permit refers to all types of building permits. These are permits for new buildings or permits for additions, repair, renovation, demolition, legitimization, amendment and modification of a building.
