Greece sees 20% rise in real estate transactions in H1 2024

In H1 2024, property transfers in Greece grew by 20% on an annual basis, despite the constant increase in prices, Kathimerini reported.

State revenues from realty transfers stood at €302.49 million euros in January-June 2024, data from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) showed. The Municipality of Athens led, seeing 3,419 real estate sales taking place, according to data posted by the notaries at the Registry of Real Estate Transfers.

During the period under review, inheritances, donations and parental benefits fell, as around €109.76 million went into public coffers, compared to €124.06 million in the first half of 2023. In total, the state collected €412 million both from property sales and from parental benefits and donations.

Meanwhile, in the last twelve months, from July 2023 until June 2024, Total Building Activity (private-public) in Greece, calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits, amounted to 29,772. This figure corresponds to 6,915,116 m2 of surface and 31,366,732 m3 of volume, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) data revealed.

In June 2024 alone, the Total Building Activity (private-public) in Greece which is calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits, amounted to 2,418. This figure corresponds to 504,012 m2 of surface and 2,329,218 m3 of volume, reflecting, respectively, a 1.7% decrease in the number of building permits, a 1.1% decrease in surface and a3.5% decrease in volume, compared with the corresponding month of 2023.
