ECONOMY
-Grid losses and power thefts in 2021 and 2022 have been ascertained by Greek power grid operator DEDDIE to amount to 500 million euros. The bill was sent to providers, which in turn are passing it on to consumers, Kathimerini reported. While wholesale electricity prices are going down, consumers will see no benefit in April nor the next few month.
-Greece raised 812.5 million euros from 13-W T-Bill Auction, according to the Public Debt Management Agency (PDMA).
-In March, Greece saw a new uptick in the inflation rate, which settled at 3.4%, up from February’s 3.1%. Eurozone’s annual inflation stood 2.4% in March 2024, down from 2.6% in February according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
TOURISM
-Juneyao Air’s inaugural flight from Shanghai to Athens arrived at the Greek capital’s airport on Tuesday, marking the launch of the first direct connection between the two cities. The launch constitutes a milestone as well as a strong incentive for enhancing travel flow from both sides, Tourism Minister, Olga Kefalogianni, said in a special event attended by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Hellenic Republic, Xiao Junzheng, and the chairman of Juneyao Air, Wang Junjin.
-Aegean Airlines recorded significantly positive numbers in passenger traffic, in the first quarter of the year, along with an equivalent growth of 11% in both domestic and international networks.
-The Anilio and 3-5 Pigadia ski resorts will be allocated a total of 10 million euros each for upgrades as part of a wider Ministry of Tourism call for plans to be included in its RFF-supported funding program budgeted at 387 million euros.
-The Committee for Aviation Tourism was re-established on Monday by decision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism. Among the committee’s duties are the submission of proposals, opinions and legislative reforms to encourage tourism by small aircraft and improve infrastructure at regional airports, including landing and take off fields.
-Greece was named the fourth best beach destination in the world for those traveling solo, according to a report released recently by Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air.
