ECONOMY

-Turnover in retail trade decreased by 18.4% in January 2024 on an annual basis, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

-The assets of the four Mutual Fund Management Companies (AEDAK) that are subsidiaries of the Greek systemic banks grew by 1.8 billion euros in the first quarter of 2024, Kathimerini reported.

-The Development Ministry imposed fines totaling 1,380,000 euros for unfair profiteering on 13 companies including FG Europe and Lidl Hellas.

-The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) data reveal that 26.1% of the population of Greece is at risk of poverty and social exclusion. The numbers are part of the 2023 Survey on Income and Living Conditions of Households (EU-SILC).

-The consumer confidence index reached -44.7 points in March 2024, compared to -47.2 points in February, returning to the levels of October 2023, IOBE announced.

-New applications from Greece for obtaining a European patent decreased by 15.6% in 2023 compared to 2022, having reached 157, according to the Intellectual Property Committee of the National Hellenic Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce.

REAL ESTATE

-The real estate market amounted to 47% of the total of 4.48 billion euros invested in the Greek economy in 2023, the Bank of Greece reported.

TOURISM

The Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos said in an announcement that passenger traffic was 20% higher in March 2024 compared to the same month a year ago. Figures were boosted by both domestic and international passenger traffic, which were 12.6% and 23.5% higher respectively.
