ECONOMY
-Greece, Portugal, and Spain are projected record strong economic growth in the coming years, driven by the robust tourism sector, according to a recent analysis by Capital Economics.
-Greece is third in the EU with over 1.5 million workers unable to afford a week’s holiday in 2022, according to an analysis of EU data for the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).
-Among EU countries, the most expensive ice cream was produced in Austria, with an average price of € 7.7 per litre of ice cream, followed by Hungary with €4.8 per litre and Greece with €3.7 per litre, Eurostat data showed.

Greek utility PPC’s H1 2024 net profits stood at €228 million, up from €84 million on an annual basis. The company also announced the acquisition of Romanian firm Evryo Group for €700 million
SHIPPING
-Passenger and merchant marine captains decry the state of Greek ports, Kathimerini reported citing the “Port Report 2024,” issued by the Panhellenic Association of Merchant Marine Captains.
-New digital process for submitting and managing the Transit Log for foreign private vessels is now in effect through the myAADE, AMNA reported. The system applies to private recreational boats over 7 meters in length arriving at Greek ports.
TOURISM
-Last month, European air traffic grew by 4.5 percent y-o-y, averaging 34,379 flights per day, according to the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol). Traffic levels reached 97 percent of those seen in 2019. Greece experienced significant traffic increase compared to 2019 (+20 percent).
-The Ioannina Region Hotels Association (IRHA) is advocating for significant upgrades to the city’s airport infrastructure to boost international tourism and attract more flights.
