ECONOMY
-Greece ranks last in terms of productivity levels among European OECD members and fourth from bottom among OECD member-countries overall, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
-The total value of imports, in March 2024 amounted to 6,694.6 million euros recording a drop, in euros, of 10.1% on an annual basis, according to Greece’s statistical authority ELSTAT.
TOURISM
-Fitch Solutions estimates that arrivals this year arrivals will increase by 5.3% year-on-year to 34.5 million, reaching 104.4% of the 2019 level (31.3 million), and against 32.7 million tourists in 2023. The company predicts that arrivals will reach 39.3 million by 2028, with an average growth rate of 3.7% per year during that period.
-The Greek National Tourism Organization is attending the Arabian Travel Market trade show with the aim to increase tourism flows from the Arab world to Greece.
-Passenger traffic at the Athens International Airport (AIA) amounted to 2.49 million during April 2024, up 16.3% on an annual basis, according to the AIA. Domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded last year’s figures by 4.1% and 21.7%, respectively.
-Athens ranked 8th as one of the destinations with the highest incidents of pickpocketing and theft, according to London-based travel insurance company Quotezone.
