ECONOMY

-Wood & Company, the leading investment bank in Central and Eastern Europe, maintains its Greek economic growth forecast at 2.8% but the firm remains cautious about the impact of potential wildfires and floods in 2024.

-The concessionaire for Kalamata Airport in Peloponnese is expected to be decided upon by the end of 2024, according to Growthfund, the National Fund of Greece. Growthfund CEO Grigoris Dimitriadis told a press conference that the Greek government will retain 10 percent of the airport through the fund. Moreover, he mentioned that tenders for another 22 regional airports are coming soon.

-Food and drink covers 28.1% of all Greek manufacturing companies (56,604 enterprises), which ranks it first among manufacturing industries in the country, according to a study by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) conducted on behalf of the Association of Greek Food Industries.

The Greek Merchant Fleet increased by 0.2% in May 2024 compared with May 2023, ELSTAT data showed. The gross tonnage of the Greek Merchant Fleet, for vessels of 100 GRT and over, recorded a decrease of 3.5% in May 2024 on an annual basis.

GENERAL

-A fire broke out shortly after noon on Thursday (July 11) in low grassland near the port city of Alexandroupolis, northern Greece, the Fire Service said.

-The traffic restrictions in downtown Athens in an area known as the “daktylios” (ring), which regulates the circulation of odd and even numbered vehicles, will be lifted for the summer starting July 19 at 3 p.m., allowing all vehicles unrestricted access to the city center until mid-October.

-The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels has launched a special electronic platform to manage room availability during natural disasters.

-The Greek government has proposed spatial provisions for Sports, Golf, and Ski tourism niche markets. The new proposed Special Spatial Framework for Tourism will remain subject to public dialogue until September 15, taking place electronically among all sides concerned.
