ECONOMY
-In the Greek wholesale electricity market, the MWh price in the evening hours on Wednesday reached as much as €500, forming an average daily price at the highs of €184.79, Kathimerini reported. The price is more than €80/MWh higher than the already high prices of May and June.
-A hike of 5.3% was recorded in the average monthly income from new pensions in May on an annual basis with the amount being 1,014 euros from €963, according to a Helios report.
-In H2 2023, the Greek small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) expectations index fell to 63.7 points, according to the economic climate survey of the Institute of Small Businesses (IME) of the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen & Merchants (GSEVEE).
-In H1 2024, Greece witnessed a notable surge in natural gas consumption. Domestic usage increased by 29.76%, reaching 30.78 Terawatt hours (TWh) compared to 23.72 TWh in the same period in 2023, according to data from the country’s National Natural Gas System Operator (DESFA).
REAL ESTATE
-The Greek state will launch a project titled “Identification of Unauthorized Construction with Modern Technological Means” which will employ satellite and aerial technology in order to locate illegal constructions throughout the country, it was announced on Wednesday.
-According to a nationwide survey conducted by RE/MAX Greece, the country’s largest real estate network reveal that 50% of Greek buyers nationwide prefer properties ranging in size up to 75 square meters.
TOURISM
-The Hellenic Parliament approved a new tourism law late Thursday, aiming to ensure the sustainability, resilience, and competitiveness of Greece’s destinations and tourism products, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
-Greece could pilot digital work card in tourism market starting this fall, according to discussions among Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE), and Minister of Labor and Social Security.
-In H1 2024 Aegean Airlines saw increased passenger traffic up 9% to 7.3 million people on an annual basis.
