POLITICS

– Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias said on Monday (Feb. 13) in an interview on Mega TV that the January pre-bookings for this year’s tourist season are 20% higher compared to the corresponding ones in 2019.

ECONOMY

-The Greek Supreme Court on Feb. 9 ruled that servicers based in Greece have the right to participate in court actions and carry residential auctions under their brand name and not as representatives of funds. Servicers are managing portfolios of non-performing loans in the country worth 45 billion euros. At risk are 700,000 properties with 50% of them estimated to be residents. Within three years it is estimated that around 150,000 houses will be auctioned electronically at a price below their value.

STRIKES

Five of largest public museums in Greece (National Archaeological Museum of Athens, the Byzantine and Christian Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Byzantine Culture of Thessaloniki and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, Crete) were closed on Feb. 13, due to the 24-hour strike by the Association of Greek Archaeologists.

BUSINESS

-Italy’s Fincantieri signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Elefsina Shipyards and with Greek industries at the Italian embassy on Sunday, the Trieste-based shipbuilding company said in a tweet on Monday (Feb. 13).

-Athens, Rhodes and Milos are included in the 20 best destinations in Europe for holidays in 2023, according to the voting conducted by Forbes in its “European Best Destinations 2023” article. More than 500,000 travelers from 178 countries took part in the vote.

CAPITAL MARKET

Stocks on Athens Stock Exchange closed higher on Tuesday with the benchmark General Index gaining 0.10%.
