Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras presented on Wednesday (Feb. 15) a new package of support measures worth 800 million euros aimed at pensioners, taxpayers and businesses hit by inflation, AMNA reported.
ECONOMY
-Greece’s consumer price inflation eased for a fourth straight month to 7% in January 2023, from a 7.2% rise in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation rate since January 2022, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) data showed.
-In 2022, business turnover stood at €461.24 billion, recording an increase of 35.5% compared to 2021, when it came to €340.28 billion, according to ELSTAT data. Turnover in the hospitality sector reached €16.45 billion.
-The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Greece was unchanged at 11.6% in December 2022, from an upwardly revised figure in November and remaining at its lowest jobless rate since January 2010, ELSTAT data showed.
-State General Accounting Office officials predict a primary deficit of 1-1.2% of GDP for 2022, Greek daily Kathimerini reported citing sources.
-Total passenger traffic at the country’s airports increased by 76.3% in January compared to the same month last year and 3.1% compared to 2019, according to data from the Civil Aviation Authority.
COMPANIES & BUSINESS
-Despite the fact that Greece ranks among the most earthquake-prone regions in the world, insured homes number only around 1 million and represent just 16% of the total number of buildings, data from the Association of Insurance Companies of Greece reveal.
-A memorandum of cooperation between the Associations of Greek Businesses of Albania, Republic of North Macedonia and Serbia was signed on Tuesday (Feb. 14) in Tirana, at the building of the Embassy of Greece, AMNA reported. The amount of Greek investments in the three Balkan countries exceeds $3 billion, making Greece one of the largest foreign investors in them.

Stocks on Athens Stock Exchange closed lower on Wednesday with the General Index dropping 0.82%.
