-In the first quarter of 2024, the job vacancy rate was 2.9% in the euro area, the same as in the last quarter of 2023 and down from 3.2% in the first quarter of 2023, according to figures published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Greece is among the EU member-states with the highest job vacancy rates (+1.6 pp).
-Rating agency Moody’s upgraded Eurobank’s rating by two notches to Baa2 from Ba1, based on the following criteria: The strongest financial fundamentals, driven by strong earnings and a proven ability to raise core capital over the last quarters. The strongest asset quality and liquidity of the bank.
TOURISM
-Greece is considering imposing a cap on the number of cruise ships visiting the country’s most popular islands to mitigate the damage from over-tourism, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told Bloomberg.
-The mayors of Santorini, Serifos and Lefkada have raised the banner of despair over the effects of hypertourism on the sustainability of resources on the Greek islands, Kathimerini reported.
-Citing data from industry analytics firm Cirium UK-based travel website travelweekly.co.uk reports that over 4,000 flights are scheduled to operate from UK airports to Greece in June 2024.
