ECONOMY

-The primary surplus stood at 1.6 billion euros between January and May 2024 compared to 2.9 billion euros in the same period in 2023, according to the Bank of Greece. The central government cash balance recorded a deficit of 537 million euros compared to a deficit of 1.920 billion euros in the corresponding period of 2023.

-Tax revenues stood at 24.827 billion euros in the five-month period January-May, increased by 1.443 billion euros or 6.2% compared to the target included in the introductory report of the 2024 Budget, according to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.

BUSINESS

-The Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) Group was named one of “The 50 Most Sustainable Companies in Greece” on the ESG Index in Greece, published by the Quality Net Foundation. It is the 7th year in a row that OTE is awarded the recognition.

-Piraeus Bank and Dimand, one of the leading real estate development companies in Greece, are expected to announce next week their cooperation in the real estate sector Naftemporiki reported citing sources.

TOURISM

-Astypalaia, one of the Dodecanese islands, with its whitewashed villages, deep blue sea waters and sun-drenched beaches, tops the Travel Weekly’s “secret five” list. According to the British publication, the small island offers everything one could dream of, minus the crowds.

-In 2024, Greek travel abroad experienced a 25% drop compared to 2023, To Vima reported citing Lysandros Tsilidis, president of the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist and Travel Agencies (Fedhatta). This decline is largely attributed to the poor economic situation of households.
