ECONOMY
-Registered unemployment totaled 836,713 people in September 2023, down 5.9% compared with the same month in 2022 and a drop of 60,830 (-6.8%) from August 2023, the Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) said in a report.
-Greece’s current account deficit shrank by 4.2 billion euros in January-August 2023, while tourist arrivals increased by 18.4%, boosting travel receipts to 14.66 billion euros, the Bank of Greece said in a report on Friday.
-Supermarkets’ turnover totaled 5.85 billion euros in January-August 2023, up 9.8% y-o-y, supported by strong inflation, a survey by Circana showed.
SHIPPING
The total contribution of the shipping sector to Greece’s gross domestic product stands at7.9%, according to a study by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE).
REAL ESTATE
-Piraeus saw the biggest increase (65%) in real estate sales between the first half of this year and the corresponding period last year, according to the TOPO GES IKE Residential Market Observatory for Attica. During the period under review, the total value of purchases and sales in the city port rose by 143% and the price of the average property also rose by 47%.
-Bulldozers will demolish 219 unlicensed buildings on the seafront, beach, forests, forested and reforested areas of Rhodes, Oikonomikos Taxydromos reported. Last Monday, the project supervisors were appointed by the Decentralized Administration of the Aegean SHARE.
