ECONOMY
-Registered unemployment totaled 1,039,475 persons in January, off 4.7% on an annual basis and down 0.03% compared with December 2023, Public Manpower Agency (DYPA) said in a report on Tuesday.
-In 2023, travel receipts reached 20.5 billion euros, according to data released by the Bank of Greece (BoG), a 12.7% uptick from 18.151 billion euros in 2019.
-About 10 million euros are added annually to state coffers from dormant bank accounts, Naftemporiki reported. When there is no transaction in an account for 24 consecutive months, then it is characterized as inactive. Another 18 years have to pass so that the funds turn over to the state.
-The North Aegean region ranked 3rd from the bottom among the 242 European regions included in a report, recording one of the lowest per capita GDPs, Eurostat data revealed. In Attica, per capita GDP is 90% of the European average, while in other Greek regions it is below 75% of the EU.
-Greece has 250 products of Protected Agricultural Indication and Protected Designation of Origin (PGI and PDO) and 42% of their sales are made outside Greece, Kathimerini reported.
GENERAL
A protest rally at Syntagma Square in Athens concluded on Tuesday evening with farmers from all of Greece calling on the government to meet their demands, AMNA reported. At least 6,500 participants with over 160 tractors and agricultural machinery were at Syntagma, according to estimates, while 112 buses transported farmers from several regions to Athens.
