POLITICS

Greece’s ruling New Democracy party has won 40.8% of votes in the Greek general election with almost 97% of ballots counted, a 20-point lead over the left-wing Syriza party of Alexis Tsipras, which had 20.1%, according to official data on Monday. A second round will likely occur in late June or early July.

ECONOMY

-Electronic transactions increased by 18.1% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 and by 59% against the first quarter of 2019, Finance Ministry data showed.

-In its third request to the European Commission for Recovery and Resilience Facility financing, Greece has asked for the release of 1.72 billion euros in order to achieve three main goals: investments in e-mobility and e-vehicle charging infrastructure, financing renovations for the energy upgrade of buildings and digitising public administration combined with greater use of optic fibre infrastructure in buildings, AMNA reported.

GENERAL

The Corinth Canal will reopen to navigation on June 1, 2023 and for four months, that is until September 30, the Canal’s managing company announced on Friday.
