The number of unemployed people registered with Public Employment Service (DYPA) dropped to 854,181 in May 2023, falling below 900,000 for the first time since May 2011.
BANKING
Crete-based Pancreta Bank will absorb HSBC’s operations in Greece on July 28. HSBC, which has operated in Greece since 1981, has assets of around €2 bn in the country. The bank said it served 90,000 retail customers and around 500 business customers through 15 branches.
SHIPPING
The Hellenic Competition Commission (HCC) has recommended the approval of the merger, through absorption, of Cretan coastal shipping company ANEK ferries by Attica Group, the parent company of the Superfast Ferries fleet, the Blue Star Ferries fleet and the Hellenic Seaways fleet. The Plenary Session of HCC will convene on July 12, 2023 and give its verdict.
