ECONOMY

-Deposits placed by households and private nonprofit institutions grew by €439 million last month, after an increase of €163 million in July, the Bank of Greece said on Wednesday (Sept. 27).

-Greece’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) should advance 2.4% in 2023 and by 2.3% in 2024, according to a report published on Wednesday by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The financial institution’s September forecasts, were unchanged from its previous forecasts in May.

-The Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) announced it is pledging over €50 million for the reconstruction efforts in response to the devastating floods that struck the Thessaly region in Central Greece and caused massive damage to infrastructure and residential areas.

-One in two households in Greece cut food expenses in order to be able to pay their electricity and heating bills, according to a research conducted by Greece’s Consumers Association EKPOIZO.

The Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization has decided to close the Samaria Gorge on the island of Crete on Friday, September 29, 2023 after taking into account the meteorological forecast for rainfalls in the Gorge and the wider area.
