ECONOMY
-A total of 112,000 new businesses were started in Greece in 2023, up 6.1% on an annual basis, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) data showed. Most new business ventures were in the construction sector (16.1%) and in transportation and storage (16.1%).
-A significant percentage of 29% stated that cash will always be the preferred payment method for Greeks according to the findings of a survey, conducted by INEMY-ESEE on behalf of Visa.
-The gap between larger and smaller businesses and the concern about their smooth coexistence are intensifying concerns about the future of retail trade, which mainly includes micro and small commercial enterprises, according to the Annual Report of Greek Commerce 2023.
REAL ESTATE
The need for more large logistics centers in Thessaloniki, but also for upgrading infrastructure by the state, developing hotel and transport facilities, and establishing a robust framework for Northern Greece’s real estate market, were highlighted in the 7th Prodexpo North, the main real estate exhibition in northern Greece, held at the Makedonia Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki.
TOURISM
Lesser-known islands such as Tinos, Serifos, Skopelos, Thassos, the Peloponnese and northern Greece have emerged as increasingly popular for travelers renting accommodations for the 2024 season through short-term lease platforms, such as Airbnb, To Vima reported.
