The design-awarded beachside resort Isla Brown Corinthia on the Corinthian Gulf will welcome guests for the spring and summer season starting from April 19, 2024. The five-star property, a member of the Brown Hotels Group portfolio, was designed by Athens-based Elastic Architects.
The total redesign of the iconic mid-1970s Hanikian hotel building is shaping a new architectural identity. “The design concept for Isla Brown Corinthia highlights the material and sensual properties of its location on the northern edge of the Greek Volcanic Arc, besides Sousaki, a craterless volcano silent for 2.7million years. Inspired by a mythological embodiment of a volcanic eruption, the design introduces panoramic views, and emulates the fluidity of lava: The square volumes of the building become a stack of white “pebbles” while successive curved surfaces on the facades of the building give a dynamic form and a sculpture effect that creates an overall sense of movement” says the team at Elastic Architects. “The color palette features volcanic shades of terracotta and amber, bronze mirrors, gold, and tinted glass.”
The hotel just 1hour away from Athens, in Agioi Theodoroi, Corinthia, boasts 166 guest rooms and suites. Travertino stone with its rare tonalities hewn by nature was used to illuminate the space and bring out a vivid, uplifting feel. Common spaces include a lobby, indoor sea view bar with a bronze sculptural countertop under an undulating ceiling, an all-day dining restaurant and an infinity rooftop shallow pool with bar and lounge seating areas offering extended views over the Corinthian Gulf. Bespoke furniture designed for all common spaces, offer functionality while following contemporary aesthetics, inspired by distinctive natural elements.
The hotel offers immediate access to a private beach with a floating water park and activities, extreme water sporting facilities for children and adults, and also features a gym and an incredible spa. Isla Brown Corinthia Resort & Spa was awarded “Best Spa Hotel” by The Independent in their 2023 best hotels list. Additionally, the hotel’s multi-purpose modular meetings and events space can host up to 400 guests.
The creative vision of the Elastic team for the five-star hotel has been acknowledged by the International Design Awards (IDA) with the ‘Gold’ architecture prize in the ‘Hotels & Resorts’ category by the (IDA) 2022. . The IDA, founded by the Farmani Group in 2007, exist to recognize, celebrate and promote legendary design visionaries and to uncover emerging talent in Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic, and Fashion Design.
